Addressing Trauma
Trauma can arrive in many shapes and sizes. Sometimes it’s a single event, sometimes multiple experiences across a whole period of life, and sometimes it’s still ongoing. Whenever it comes and whatever its source, a traumatizing experience can linger in our minds and bodies, changing how we relate to ourselves and the world.
Some of the ways trauma may show up include:
feeling unsafe and hyper-alert in the world, your body, and/or relationships
experiencing strong, unwanted, and difficult-to-manage shifts in emotion, often associated with reminders of trauma
feeling really numb or disconnected from yourself
having difficulties with self-worth or self-doubt
Within our society, it can be difficult to find ways to name and process what you’ve experienced: we’re often expected to just keep on moving, and certain harms are often minimized or unacknowledged.
In therapy together, we can put words to what feels difficult to name, explore and metabolize the impacts of your life history, and create room to encounter yourself freely and fully.
Types of trauma I most often address:
Sexual Violence
Childhood abuse
Racial Trauma
